Tbilisi Airport is the main airport of Georgia. Its official name is Shota Rustaveli Tbilisi International Airport. The old name is Novoalexeyevka, and you can still hear it from taxi drivers and see it in some timetables. Because of this, many people think Tbilisi has two airports. It doesn’t, there is only one.
The airport is about 17 km southeast of the city centre, on the Kakheti Highway. The terminal is small and easy to navigate, it’s hard to get lost here. In 2025 the airport handled more than 5 million passengers for the first time, and the terminal is already getting crowded. So in 2026 an expansion started: by 2028 the terminal and the airfield should grow enough for the airport to handle up to 10 million passengers a year.
In short:
- The city centre is about 17 km away, 20–30 minutes by taxi without traffic.
- Bus 337 runs from the airport to Station Square, 1 GEL, from 7 am to 11 pm.
- A taxi ordered through an app (Bolt, Yandex Go) is cheaper than one at the exit.
- ATMs and currency exchange are in both the arrivals and departures halls.
- Free Wi-Fi works across the whole terminal, no registration needed.
Tbilisi Airport Online Flight Board
Below is the online departures and arrivals board of Tbilisi Airport. It’s handy for checking whether your flight, or the flight of someone you’re meeting, is on time.
For more detail, use the board on the official website: departures and arrivals. You can also search for a flight by number there.
Tbilisi Airport – How to Get to the City
You can get from the airport to the centre by bus, by taxi or by a transfer booked in advance. The train that used to run from the station next to the terminal is not operating now.
Bus 337
The only public transport from the airport is city bus No. 337. The stop is right outside the arrivals hall.
Route: airport — Kakheti Highway — Queen Ketevan Avenue — Baratashvili Street — Rustaveli Avenue (Freedom Square) — Station Square, where the Tbilisi railway station is. The ride takes about an hour, depending on traffic.
The bus runs from 7:00 to 23:00, roughly every 15 minutes, less often at weekends. There is no bus at night, so if you land at night, plan a taxi or a transfer right away.
The fare is 1 GEL, and for 90 minutes you can change for free to another bus or the metro. You can pay by bank card right on the bus (just tap it on the validator) or with a Metromoney transport card. The card is sold at metro ticket offices and at Bank of Georgia branches, including the one at the airport. To see where the bus is right now, use the TTC live map.
Taxi from Tbilisi Airport
The official airport taxi works 24/7 right outside the arrivals hall. Private drivers will definitely approach you there too. With them, agree on the price before you get in the car, and it usually ends up higher than in an app.
It’s easier and calmer to order a car through an app, Bolt or Yandex Go. You see the price in advance and don’t need to haggle. To the centre without traffic it’s 20–30 minutes. More about apps and prices in the article about taxis in Tbilisi.
Transfer
If you don’t want to figure anything out after the flight, especially at night or with kids, you can book a transfer in advance, for example through KiwiTaxi. The driver meets you with a sign at the exit, already knows the address, and the price is fixed and doesn’t depend on traffic. You can pay in advance, so you don’t need to exchange money as soon as you land.
How to Get from Tbilisi to the Airport
The same ways. Bus 337 goes from Station Square via Rustaveli to the airport, but with suitcases and in traffic it’s a long ride. If your flight is early in the morning or at night, the bus won’t work — take a taxi through an app or a transfer.
Arrivals Hall – Exchange, SIM Cards, Car Rental
The arrivals hall has everything you need right after landing: ATMs, currency exchange, an information desk, a medical point, the lost luggage office, mobile operator offices and car rental desks.
You can buy a SIM card right at the airport, where they sell tourist packages. In the city, in the offices of the same operators, there are more plans, and they’re usually cheaper. If you need internet straight away to order a taxi, free Wi-Fi works across the whole terminal: the “Tbilisi Loves You” or “Airport Free Wi-Fi” networks, no registration.
The rental companies at the airport include both international brands and local ones. It’s easier to compare prices in advance on Localrent, and the car will be delivered right to the airport.
Currency Exchange at Tbilisi Airport
ATMs and branches of Bank of Georgia, TBC and Liberty Bank are in both the arrivals and departures halls. Exchange offices work around the clock, but the rate at the airport is worse than in the city. So I only change a little here for the first day, and the rest in the centre.
Departures Hall
The check-in desks are right opposite the entrance, with a board above them showing flight and desk numbers. You don’t need to print your ticket, your passport is enough. Then comes passport control, and on the second floor are the gates, Duty Free, cafes, souvenir shops and the waiting area.
In the departures hall there are luggage wrapping machines and a 24-hour left-luggage office. If you want to wait for your flight in comfort, the primeclass lounge is open 24/7.
Parking at Tbilisi Airport
There are car parks right in front of the terminal and to the side of it. The closest spaces fill up quickly, but there are always more lots nearby. The cost depends on the time, and you can calculate the exact amount with the calculator on the airport website. If you’re leaving the car for a long time, there are parking subscriptions there too.
