Shopping in Batumi: features of the city’s shopping centers
Strange as it may seem, the malls and shopping centers in Batumi (Georgia) differ from similar facilities worldwide. Some characteristics:
- You’ll struggle to find a mall that has everything. Some specialize in clothing, others in electronics, and others in groceries and ready-to-eat food.
- Shopping centers in Batumi are not separate standalone buildings (with the exceptions of BlackSea Mall and Grand Mall). In most cases, they are buildings where you can buy or rent an apartment and live close to shopping opportunities.
- Only Grand Mall has a movie theater. This common entertainment for children and adults is absent in most of the city’s shopping centers.
- Not all malls have a food court where you can recharge after hours of shopping.

Therefore, if you plan on shopping in Batumi, you may want to learn the details about each shopping center. After all, no one wants to arrive somewhere expecting to buy clothes, only to find out that it’s not sold there. Being prepared is key. Let’s get started.
Batumi Mall
Shopping centers are a relatively recent phenomenon here, and Batumi Mall was one of the first in the city. This four-story building is located in the city center, near McDonald’s. Locals often refer to it as “Goodwill,” after the Goodwill supermarket that occupies the entire first floor of the mall.
What can you buy at Batumi Mall? Almost anything, from souvenirs to furniture. The mall has a couple dozen clothing stores and several shoe stores. It’s worth noting the shoe store on the second floor, which is one of the few places selling orthopedic shoes. Most of these are for children, but there are a few models for adults. You’ll also find several chain shoe stores and one large perfume shop.
The Goodwill hypermarket occupies almost the entire first floor. It can’t compete with Carrefour in terms of selection and prices, but thanks to its convenient location, it’s always busy.
On the second floor, you’ll find two stores with the same name, “Super.” One specializes in toys, the other in kitchenware and household goods. Both are popular among locals and visitors alike.
On the third floor you will find a furniture showroom, several branded outlets and the only toilet in the entire building.
he fourth floor houses a popular sports club (one of the city’s most frequented), a small arcade with gaming machines, a salt room for children, a petting zoo, and several beauty salons.
Like many shopping centers, there are numerous kiosks selling trendy clothing, souvenirs, perfumes, cosmetics, and so on. There is no official food court here. Instead, you’ll find a cozy café on the second floor, plus a pizzeria and fast-food options near the entrance.
It’s worth noting the well-known home goods store Jysk, located in the same building (under the parking area), but with an entirely separate entrance.

Metro City Mall
Metro City shopping center is spread over two floors. Don’t let that fool you: in terms of the number of stores, it can rival many other malls in the city. Let’s begin with the supermarket located directly opposite the main entrance—Carrefour. It’s the only large supermarket in this area offering groceries and household items, though it’s smaller than the hypermarket at Black Sea Mall.
Metro City features many popular brand clothing stores. You’ll find brands such as LC Waikiki, Penty, OVS, Terranova, Flo, and many others. It offers a good selection of branded shops, so many locals choose this mall when they go shopping in Batumi.
Footwear is represented by several stores of absolutely different price segments. Almost all of them are located on the second floor of the shopping center. There are shoes for both adults and children.
And also “Super”, which includes products of two types: toys and household goods. There is a cosmetics store and a couple of markets with household goods (mainly dishes and textiles). There are no fewer islands with products here than in other centers.
The food court area is on the same level. You’ll find several different restaurants here. Fast-food options include Turkish cuisine, Sabway, Dunkin Donuts, and Burger King. Nearby, there’s a children’s play area with a maze, bumper cars, and arcade machines. Restrooms are available on both floors. The mall is located on the New Boulevard, on the outskirts of the city. Therefore, to get there, you’ll need to use public transportation or take a taxi.

Batumi Plaza
If you ask locals what can be found in the Batumi Plaza shopping center, the most common response is “the Gold Exchange.” In reality, it’s a place where gold jewelry is traded (often pre-owned pieces). In addition to ready-made gold and silver items, you can also commission a jeweler to create a piece to your liking. The jewelry trading area is located on the second floor.
The second most common answer is the swimming pool. This is where you’ll find the city’s largest pool (meeting Olympic standards). For this reason, it’s extremely popular among locals, especially in the off-season when swimming in the sea isn’t an option.
Note: as of early 2025, the pool is closed for renovations.
The entire first floor is occupied by technology pavilions, namely all sorts of gadgets and accessories. Buy a phone case, headphones or stick a protective film on the screen – this is where.
You won’t buy clothes or shoes here, but you can find some souvenirs. You can get there by any transport or on foot. Since the building is located in the historical center (on the site of the old bazaar), next to the cable car.

DS Mall
This is one of the latest malls to open in the capital of Adjara. Until recently, there was a shopping center unofficially referred to as a “universal store.” It moved to this new building, forming the main set of retail sections within DS Mall.
What can you buy here? Products in the Nikora supermarket (entrance from two sides, from the street and from the mall). The lion’s share here is occupied by clothing stores (not brands), but just clothes like in a regular market.
It is worth mentioning the pavilion where you can buy everything for dancing. There are clothes for Latin American dances, Georgian folk dances, various skirts and tutus.
There is no food court here either, but there is a large play area—a children’s center with a café. While you drink your coffee, your child can have fun in the maze, the dry pool, or at various arcade machines.
The mall itself is modest in size. On the street-facing side, you’ll find a few toy shops, textile stores (curtains and drapes), a cosmetics shop (covering personal and household hygiene), and a pharmacy.
You can get there by transport, taxi or on foot. Since this shopping center is located in the city center, between Batumi Mall and Black Sea Mall.

Black Sea Mall (Carrefour Batumi)
Let’s start with the fact that locals often call it Carrefour, after the name of the anchor hypermarket. This shopping center is the smallest, one-story.
A grocery supermarket takes up most of the building. Carrefour is popular among locals for its low prices and better selection. However, the cashiers often struggle with the high volume of customers, and sometimes you can end up waiting in line for up to half an hour.
Despite this, you’ll find souvenir items here that aren’t available in other city markets. One example is the well-known label BlueTabla, producing textiles (mainly tablecloths) and tableware with national motifs. Another is the accessories store Cosmo, offering handmade items like bags, wallets, and jewelry featuring Picasso paintings, famous Georgian landmarks, and traditional ornaments.
There are only a few clothing shops on the premises and one store selling bedding. You’ll also find a pharmacy and a couple of gadget and accessory outlets, including the popular electronics store “Zoomer.” It’s known for its low prices on Apple products, so it’s always bustling inside.
There’s only one small children’s store here, with toys on one side and books on the other. However, there are two fast-food spots for the kids: Wendy’s and Dunkin’ Donuts. They’re located next to each other and share a common food court area. Right behind them is the mall’s only restroom.
It’s easy to reach this place because most city buses run along the main street where the mall is located. For those who prefer walking, look for the stadium and the famous arch on the Alley of Heroes as a landmark.

Largest Shopping Center in Batumi – Grand Mall
With a few months’ delay, on October 6, 2023, Grand Mall opened its doors. At long last, Batumi has its own large shopping center, complete with all the features of a modern complex. There is a movie theater, numerous stores spread across four floors, a big food court, and even a bowling alley.
Shopping lovers will be delighted: more than 100 boutiques, including such famous brands as Zara, Mango, Guess, Armani, Levi’s, Wrangler, Massimo Dutti, Stradivarius and others.
The fourth floor of the Grand Mall is dedicated to entertainment. Here is the largest food court in Batumi, where world chains are represented: McDonald’s, KFC, Subway, Wendy’s, etc. There are also non-chain projects. Including cafes and restaurants. Also on the top floor you can find a cinema, bowling, a gym and a playground.
Grand Mall is the largest shopping center in Batumi, and it has attracted many visitors from its very first days. The Gloria Jean’s café by the entrance is especially popular, and finding a free table can sometimes be challenging.
There’s a wide selection of stores (by Batumi standards, it’s huge), offering clothing, electronics, household items, cosmetics, children’s goods, toys, and much more.
The interior layout is somewhat reminiscent of Tbilisi Mall, featuring a central dome and two wings lined with shops.

This shopping center is located at the corner of Khimshiashvili and Kobaladze streets. A useful landmark is the Batumi Aquapark.
Because many tourists stay in this area, the mall is within walking distance for them. Everyone else will need to use some form of transportation. Several bus routes pass directly by the building, and some run a block away.
